It’s that time of the year, and what better herb to use in the kitchen than Cannabis!? We compiled a shortlist, not only of the great foods you can enjoy on your favorite holidays but also the canna-basics you’ll need to get into that holiday spirit!
(We got greens, beans, potatoes, tomatoes.. YOU NAME IT!)
Every suggestion we share will need Butter, so we got you a fairly easy recipe for some great Cannabutter provided by Miss Green Queen on YouTube! ♡
Cannabutter Recipe
Ingredients :
- Flat Baking Tray (medium-sized)
- Baking Sheets
- Sauce Pot (medium-sized)
- Glass Bowl (medium-sized)
- Metal or Rubber cooking Utensils (try not to use Wood, as it absorbs THC! You don’t want any high cookware around.. think Beauty and the Beast, but all the Spoons are eating your snacks instead of singing you songs..)
- Mesh Wire Strainer
- Cheese Cloth
- 1 Cup of Water
- 1 Stick of Butter (Can be Vegan/Plant-Based if necessary)
- 1/8 oz of the herb of your choice!
(If you would like to scale up the amount and make a whole bunch of goodies, use 1/2 oz of herb, 1 lb of butter (4 sticks), 4 cups of water, and Larger Cookware)
DISCLAIMER: Your kitchen will smell! We hope you have Febreeze 👃🍃 Or just take a few hits from your favorite electronic nectar collector and cover up the smell with… wait. 🤔 🤣
Let’s just proceed like we didn’t just recommend covering up with smell with, well, the smell.
Instructions :
- To get started, grind up your herb enough to allow it to spread and heat evenly, but not so much that it cannot be filtered by the cheesecloth and strainer! The more butter your herb spreads to, the more the THC will absorb into the fat of your butter!
- Heat your oven to 240 degrees Fahrenheit
- Place your baking sheets onto the Flat Tray, and Spread your ground up herb onto it evenly to where it all lays flat.
- Bake the herb for 45 minutes. (Miss Green Queen makes a point to explain that Decarboxylation is what’s taking place here, where the THC activates when heated up. Super Informative!)
- Over low-medium heat, simmer your butter and water into your saucepot. (Never bring it to a boil! The water adds extra heat and evaporates while the butter can safely simmer)
- Once the butter is all melted, add your herb and stir.
- Let the pot simmer on low heat for 3 hours while occasionally stirring.
- Once the mixture is done, pour this through the cheesecloth and strainer into the glass bowl. (To maximize how much you get, you may gently press the mixture through the cheesecloth and strainer to ensure all the liquid is out)
- Leave in the fridge until hardened.
- You’ll notice that water will sink to the bottom of the bowl and the hardened butter will rise and sit on the top of your bowl. Carefully make a hole on the side to strain all the water out of your bowl. We recommend doing this over a strainer or something that could catch the butter if it accidentally falls out from straining.
- Use butter as desired!
Now that we’ve got our butter ready, the possibilities are endless! ✨ Here’s what we would suggest getting the party started!
Ground-Herb Gravy
If you have a major sweet tooth (like us), why not treat yourself to some delicious candied yams! It’s the perfect balance of savory and sweet, packed with nutrients that won’t leave you feeling as guilty as you think you are 😋. Try them cubed, mashed, or sliced into discs. Either way, this is one treat that won’t disappoint!
Sesh-Worthy Stuffing
We’ve yet to see a stuffing disappoint at the dinner table, but even less when it’s infused. If you’re looking to take your canna-chef skills to the next level, add some of your new shiny butter to your stuffing recipe and watch it take off as a party favorite! (Just make sure the Turkey doesn’t get too high 🦃)
Medicated Mac n’ Cheese
An ultimate crowd-pleaser has got to be the mac n cheese during the holiday season. As one of the first dishes to go, it’s a must-have with your plate, its vegetarian friendly for your plant-based friends, and it’s great to munch on in between plates (because you know you’re going to have the munchies after that first serving).
Terp-Turkey
We had to include something for the Turkey of course! Typically there would be Herb Butter brushed over the Turkey before popping it into the oven, but since we’ve got our own herb butter prepared, you can use this in place of what the recipes traditionally call for. For our Plant-Based Friends, we’d recommend the same for your alternatives! 🌿
Honorable Mentions:
- Pumpkin Pie
- Shepard’s Pie
- Grilled / Sauteed Vegetables
- Mashed Potatoes
- Cookies or Brownies (don’t forget some ice cream!)
- Dinner Rolls (Our Favorite! 🍞)
Those are just a few suggestions out of the plethora of things you all can make using cannabutter! Not to mention there’s cannasugar, canna-simple syrup, and many different ways you can enjoy cannabis this holiday season. However you enjoy them, once thing is certain, and it’s that nothing beats a homecooked meal and getting a little lifted in the process.
As we get closer to the holidays, we’re wishing everyone well, and encouraging you to use responsibly (maybe just make one of your dishes “spicy” instead of the whole buffet?). How would you like to enjoy your infused foods? Is there something we left out that changed your edible game? Let us know! We love hearing from the community, so if you have some recommendations, reach out to us anytime on our socials (links found on our website – included in the footer below)!
Have fun! Stay Safe! And Happy Seshing, Friends!
